The Magic of Cacao

I remember as a child when my cousin broke the news that she was allergic to chocolate…gasp. I could think of nothing worse! Let’s face it, chocolate is magical. And in its purest form it is also extremely beneficial for your health. But for the ancient Mayans and Aztec societies, it had deeper spriritual meaning. Today, the cacao ceremony is still practiced around the world. It may have adjusted from its origins to fit in the modern world, but the intention remains a ceremony of reflection, connection and an openness to receive.

Cacao Ceremony means relating with cacao with gratitude, intention, and reciprocity. While it can be practice alone, one of the tenants of the ceremony is build around sharing and community. During the ceremony cacao is consumed by participants, storytelling and self-reflection are encouraged. It is meant to be an emotional release and deep connection to each other and our world. Cacao ceremony is an opportunity to listen and unite in shared meditation.
