Gardening Inside + Out

Spring’s energy is infectious. All around life is appearing. If you are an outdoor person like me, you are drawn to the newness sprouting from the earth - just a few days ago this was an empty space. Spring’s ritual, gardening, is inviting you to take part.

The symphony of sensory experiences is organic therapy. The smell of soil, the sound of birdsong, the feel of sunlight on your skin. Removing artificial distraction and focusing on growth and nurturing life is spirit lifting.

Another benefit we may not consider is gardening’s meditative qualities. It draws our awareness to the work going on that we do not see. The season past seemed slow, lifeless and inert. And yet below the surface, in what was once an empty space, the conditions for strong roots were forming. Not as dazzling as blooms that will arrive in the weeks ahead, but essential, concentrated energy.

When tending to your inner garden, follow the inspired guidance of our plants. The winds of spring arrive with fresh movement, but not everything grows at the same time, all at once and within the same space. We patiently allow the growth inside, without leaping to the full bloom, and each seedling following it’s own timing.
