Words Like Gold
Honoring silence + solitude. Intentional rituals that keep us grounded during this Vata season; the arrival of winter. A Gemini full moon waning in Gibbus signals time for contemplation, introspection, and reflection. It feels natural. Our inner seasons are in sync with the world around us. We journey inward to fortify our roots; we seek deep intimacy with ourselves.
Recognizing clarity + closure. Our bodies crave the quieting of thoughts so we may physically release the tension we carry, making space for what’s ahead. Just like the autumn leaves falling from the trees to reenergize, we need to rest and reset.
For the ancients, the practice of silent observation and introspection was deeply respected. It was not considered unusual for our ancestors to retreat to solitude as a reset from time to time.
Today, choosing not to constantly share and interact, but to spend time in the quiet of our body, is often pathologized. An assumption that something is wrong. An issue that needs to be corrected. Our lives are overexposed - pressure to produce and/or engage with media content instantly and continuously rather than encouraging maturation of ideas and opinions.
The Art of Silence. Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are, is the ancient Hindu practice of silent meditation. When we honor silence, we value words like gold. Weighted, precious. We leave space to authentically listen.
The winter gently reminds us to slow down. Follow our temporal rhythm. Find balance in a world filled with external distractions. If you are seeking guidance, a meditation practice that aligns with your inner seasons, there are many useful tools within traditional texts and resources - including reaching out here - to guide you.
I wish you peace on your journey.
Until next time, Namaste
